computer issues to try and fix, luckily
not mine this time. My daughter seems
to have caught some nasty adware/spyware
bug that's going around. Won't let her
update Windows, keeps putting up warnings
and pop ups and turned down her restoration
disk. I've no idea what it is, but sounds
pretty mean. Guess I'll be going over
there tomorrow since it's too hard to fix
anything over the phone. So be careful
with your computer, don't catch it.

What good is that? How about being among the very first

Time marches on and the Internet changes constantly. Your website needs

Check these 7 very common mistakes many website owners are making
and if you find your site doing any of these, then it is time for you to
make some changes to it.
(1) Infrequent updates-
To have a website that gains the most business, you must have the best,
most up to date website possible. If a visitor feels that you do not
properly maintain and update you website, then chances are they will
leave and find another similar website with new, up-to-date information.
(2) JavaScript pop ups-
A JavaScript pop up is a notification window that opens when you visit
a website. This was extremely popular during the website boom, but
quickly become a no-no, mainly because people over used it. Not only
would they ad the pop up to the main page of their website, but they
would also add one to each and every sub page. Typically these pop
ups did not contain any information that would be viewed as important
or even relevant to the viewer. This was very annoying then, and even
more annoying now, since newer computer system also have a noise
that goes with the popup. Don't set up audio and video displays to
start automatically and take over the page. Another annoying disply
is those unblockable pop ups that follow you along the page and block
part of the text as you try to read.
If you have a message that MUST be displayed to the user before they
can go further on your website, then a JavaScript pop up may still be
a good option, but do not overuse it, if you use it at all. Be sure
your visitor can close out any type of pop up you do use. Your best
tactic is whatever your pop up is for, put that in text form somewhere
on your sales page. That way, even if your visitor closes the pop up
right away, you'll still get your message to them.
(3) Heavy graphics-
You have to remember that a good percentage of your visitors will be
on a dialup connection, which means they will have trouble downloading
your website if you have a large number of animated graphics, video
and audio files on your website. Using these type of things have large
file sizes and most people will not wait around while your site loads.
4) Using heavy, high contrasting colors-
This was another thing that was popular during the internet boom that
quickly become unpopular due to overuse. It was once believed that
high contrasting colors would grab the users attention. While it does
grab your attention alright, it also has a negative effect since it
hurts the user eyes, and if you blind them, the best written content
ever will never get read.
(5) Clutter up pages-
If your website seems be cluttered visitors will be less likely to view further into your website, especially if they think they will have to
weed out the information they need from the information that is useless
to them. You do not want to have too much information on each page,
and you never want more then one topic on each page.
(6) Lack of a navigation system-
Many websites created during the internet boom lacked one of the most important parts of a website. Once a visitor clicked on a page they
were taken to a new page without any way to return or to access any
additional pages within the website. A navigation system insures that
the visitor will be able to view your entire website. It will take your visitor back to the page that they originally came from, to the main
page and to the other major parts of the website. Additionally,
the navigation (also called a site map) should have links to things
such as website polices and term and conditions.
(7) Overusing Advertising-
This is actually a fairly new problem with website, especially since Google
started their Adsense program. Many website have more ads then any
real information on the page. A visitor does not want to have to wade through the ads to find the content that they are looking for. The
irony of the situation is: A visitor is more likely to click on an advertisement link if they do not feel that they are being bombarded
by them. This is a situation where the saying “less is more” rings true.
