Ad Tracking Is The Key To Affiliate Marketing

There is a lot of money in affiliate marketing. However, the people
making the most money are those who are seriously working on their
affiliate program(s). Success in affiliate marketing varies in every individual affiliate and for the most part, it depends on their will
and perseverance. No matter how good an affiliate program is, it
will not prosper if the affiliate marketer does not put in the
necessary hard work, especially on the aspect of promotion.
Nothing will happen if the links or banners just sit idle on a web
page. As an affiliate marketer you must be able to convince your
visitors to click on them and proceed to the business site to buy
the products. No click-throughs means no income.
You really can generate a full time income through affiliate marketing
and you can do it at home if you like, and it does work even while
you sleep. You must have a good web site to begin with. It must have
good promotional and informative content, an easy to use design,
inviting banner and text ads and all the other important elements of
an affiliate marketer’s web site. Such as clearly defined 'buy here'
graphics and offering more than one way to purchase. It also helps a
great deal if you have other means of advertising such as in ezines, newsletters, email marketing campaigns, message boards/forums and
ad listings such as Google AdWords. Once set up all you'd have to
do is go online once in a while, check your site and update it and
then just watch over the development of your marketing program.
Sounds so easy doesn't it? Well, it can be that easy if you have
planned your affiliate program well and have taken all the steps
towards success carefully and diligently. There’s another tool you
can use to help you and most all experienced and successful affiliate marketers use it and wouldn't be without one, an Ad Tracker.
What exactly is an ad tracker? It is a marketing tracking software or program that allows you to trace and take note of every click-through
made by visitors of your site and by other customers who got your
referral link. There are ad tracking service providers as well where
you pay them to do the tracking for you. With an ad tracker, you can
keep an eye on the progress of your marketing campaigns even offline.
This tool or program is especially helpful if you are engaged in
several affiliate and pay-per-click programs and have placed ads in
emails, pop-ups and pop-unders, message boards, auto responders,
ezines, forums, several web sites, surveys and various ad service
providers.
You don’t want all your efforts to be wasted and you want to make
sure you are getting paid for all your hard work. With the help of
an ad tracker, you will know accurately how many and which of your
links were clicked on, how many clicked on your links, how many of
your emails were opened, how many of those who opened your email
clicked through the business site and purchased a product, how
many products were purchased, which of your banner ads or links
brought the most leads and sales and any other pertinent facts
and figures you want to keep track of.
Sales records and all data stated are necessary in any business as
this could determine if your affiliate program is still worth promoting.
This would also help you determine which of your marketing strategies
is the most effective and which are the most beneficial for each
product or service you are promoting.
Every decision and plan you make must be well grounded on facts.
For an example, you cannot just decide to terminate your affiliate
program just because you don’t earn big money right away. It may
not be the program, but your presentation that doesn't work. One
thing you should do along with ad tracking and that is called
Split Testing. Simply put, that just means create 2 or 3 versions
of your affiliate program ad, combine each with a different ad
tracking link and promoting each ad to a different source then
compare the results. You'll soon see which ad brings in the most
response. Your best ad can then be presented to your other sources.
Say you send each of the 3 ads to your list that you have split
into 3 list and do a mailng. Using your top response ad you resend
to the 2 list that didn't get that ad before. You could go on from
there and touch up that best ad, then send that to your list who
responded the best before and see if it improves your results any.
There are many ways to go about tweeking and refining your ads to
test performance, but without knowing what does work by tracking
your campaigns you're waisting time and money, especially if you
use any form of paid advertising.
If you are serious with affiliate marketing keep in mind that your
success lies mainly on promotion and your hard work. If you don’t
seem lucky enough to convince many of your site users to buy the
products, don’t be disheartened and jump into a conclusion that
your affiliate program is a failure. If it works for others, it should
be working for you, too. Know whether your advertising techniques
are effective or not, which works best for your program and which
does not. Get an ad tracker to help you know this and you'll be on
the right track towards success!
Who you promote to also comes into play. Be sure to advertise in
places that match the audience to your product. People not
interested in the Opera won't even take your tickets for free, so
target your program towards those already interested in the area
you are promoting. Just because you pay to promote in a million
reader newsletter it won't do any good if your product does not
match those reader's interest.
What is the best ad tracker to use? Depends on what you need really.
You could pay for an online service, buy a software program or script
to add into your site. There are free type programs that are an
affiliate program in themselves, though I don't generally recommend
that type as you may be restricted in what you can actually track.
The best advice is to evaluate your current situation and what you
plan to do in the future then review several options through a web
search.
I will tell you though, by using an ad tracking system and split
testing your ads to find what works, will earn you more money
in the long run. Blindly advertising does not work.
